Each day, we read and talk about at least one book as a whole class. Across the year, we organize our read alouds into text sets, allowing students to think deeply across texts. These text sets are organized by author, topic, or writing style. We just finished our author study on Mo Willlems. Next week we will be looking at books by Jonathan Bean and books about animal habitats.
In addition to text sets, we also share stand alone books that are too good to miss! These are often teacher or student favorites, or new releases.

Whenever you come into our classroom, you will see charts up around the room. These charts are co-created within the context of a lesson or over a series of lessons. They provide documentation of our work. Almost all of these charts are temporary. Once the learning becomes automatic to students, we take the charts down and make room for new learning.
Here are some of our charts from the first weeks of school. |
