In math, students have been investigating time. We began by comparing units of time: seconds, minutes, and hours. From there, students worked on telling time to the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour. Students are now are able to tell time to multiples of five minutes. Next time you see a clock, try asking your second grader what time it is!

We kicked off our mystery unit by brainstorming what we already knew about mysteries. We charted student ideas and identified key vocabulary. Throughout the week, we introduced additional vocabulary during our whole-class mini-lesson. Students practiced this vocabulary through a partner concentration game. Finally, students analyzed a mystery as a whole class, identifying the, "ingredients of a mystery."
