Last week during class meeting we talked about how to make our friends and classmates feel welcome. Here are our ideas! Both 2M and 4G (our buddies classroom) begin the year learning about maps and geography. Last week, we completed a giant map of the United States. We started by sorting the states into four different regions of the country. Then, we organized each region and put all the pieces together!
Fridays always end with Closing Circle. During Closing Circle, we brainstorm our new learning from the week. Then, students and teachers share one piece of learning they are proud of from the week.
Each week we read aloud a variety of books. After we read each book, one student records the book on our chart, "Books We've Shared." Afterwards, books are put out on the book rack for students to re-read.
To kick off science and get ready for our nature walk, students observed a collection of nests. We noticed so many materials in the nests. Birds are great at reusing and recycling! Last week we started our first social studies unit on mapping and geography. We have been exploring maps, reading non-fiction books, and learning about the differences between cities, states, countries, and continents. Here are student responses to our first two poems about maps. |
